Vote power doesn’t mean empowerment for women

NEW DELHI: In three of the five states about to hold elections, more women vote than men. Women thus hold the key to assembly elections in Uttarakhand , Manipur and Goa.

In the 2007 assembly elections, half of Uttarakhand’s 70 constituencies saw more women cast their votes than men. In Manipur, more women voted than men in 52 of the 60 constituencies. In Goa, women played a lesser but still significant role, outnumbering men voters in 16 of the state’s 40 constituencies. [more]
